Visio Divina

A visual journey through Lenten Art

Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit through the wilderness, being tempted there by the devil for forty days. (Luke 4:1-2).

1st Sunday of Lent

Click on the image. Look at Jesus’ posture. Look at his face and expression. Observe the landscape. Christ went to the desert to begin His ministry, why? Why go here?

Imagine coming across Jesus here. What would you say to Him? What would His response be?

Jesus took with him Peter and John and James and went up the mountain to pray. As he prayed, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing became brilliant as lightning. (Luke 9:28-29)

2nd Sunday of Lent

Click on the image. What do you see?

Imagine yourself in the scene. Imagine witnessing Jesus transfigured in this most glorious way. What do God the Father’s words mean – “This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.”?
