Welcome!!!
If you’re here because you registered for Confirmation, it is great to have you with us for this great journey of faith.
The way we prepare teens for the Sacrament of Confirmation is changing. Every year we have a number of young people who really enjoy their Confirmation preparation and want to continue. This is amazing and we want to have something for them. So, we are creating a youth group!
The youth group for all 11-16 year olds. It will offer the opportunity to grow in friendship and faith, develop a prayer life, learn with confidence to ask questions and seek answers, and have fun. As the young people grow and take ownership of their own Christian life, they will discern with their youth leaders their readiness to go forward for our intentional preparation for Confirmation.
If your young person is thinking about Confirmation then the Youth Group is for them to grow as a person, as a follower of Jesus, to nurture true friendships, and to be mentored by our amazing youth leaders.
Support Us
We have some really interesting and exciting things planned for the youth in the year ahead, but we need your support. Support us by :
1. Your prayers: pray that all our young people will encounter Jesus and the joy of being His friend.
2. Your time: if you like what you hear about the Youth Group, perhaps you can help us with your time, as a helper or even as a youth leader. (Speak to Daniel if this interests you, email below).
3. Your financial support: a lot of the things we have planned for this year cost money, like the speakers, the workshops, the equipment, the youth sessions & summits, the activities we have planned. Please consider supporting the youth group financially if you’re able. You can do so online through PayPal, (click below).
Let’s make this year of the Youth Group life changing for as many of our young people as possible.
Youth Group Pillars
These pillars are challenging, for both our leaders and our young people, but they make for an incredible experience for everyone. Have a read of them below.
To be Jesus-Centred is to be committed to living for Jesus. What does this mean?
For our leaders, it means trying to live out the Christian life as authentically as possible. What the youth leaders are inviting the young people to know about the Christian life, they are trying to live out as well.
For our young people, it means having an openness and readiness to encounter Jesus in the youth group. It also means encouraging others to be open too and being courageous in sharing Jesus with other people in the youth group. If you’ve heard an encouraging word in a time of prayer, share it with others.
A French Philosopher once said that “joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God.”
To be Joy-Filled is to receive the joy that comes from a life with Christ in every moment and to lead others to that same joy.
So, come to our Youth Group with joy, and share that joy with the leaders, with the people at the Church, and with each other. We want to see the joy of the faith.
“Rejoice in the Lord always: Again, I say, rejoice!” Philippians 4:4
We often get asked how does God speak to us? One of the ways that the voice of God can be heard is through the wisdom and guidance given by those in leadership. Our leaders are amazing people and they are bringing so much to the Youth Group. They are like you, only a little further along in their journey of faith.
This pillar is all about recognising that the Lord speaks through others to draw us closer to Sainthood. So, listen to the youth leaders and speak up as well, because the Lord can speak through you too. Be eager to share your thoughts in the small groups and allow others to share as well.
Alright, so we are not going to ask our young people to plunge toilets, but this pillar means diving into the mess. It means getting stuck in. Whether it is a physical mess, a hard conversation, or a scary situation, we are called to bring the light of Christ into every place.
So throw yourself into the activities, immerse yourself in the times of prayer, allow others to do the same and encourage them to do so. Willingly and readily serve serve and serve.
Let’s strive to do more. If you’re a musician, join the music ministry. Don’t feel like serving the Mass, do it anyway and give it 100% effort. We need everyone to throw themselves into the new and the strange, the fun and the serious, the games and the pryers, everything!
What other pillars do we need? Your youth leaders will be asking you for your insights. What do we need as a pillar to make the youth group the best experience it can be for everyone?
Serve in a Ministry
Everyone who comes along to the youth group also gets involved with a ministry. Check out the ones below and then let us know your top 3. Remember, throw yourself into these opportunities and give your gifts to others and back to God. Our youth leaders accompany the young people with each of the ministries.
– Altar Serving Ministry – Altar serving at the 12pm Mass
– Music Ministry – always popular, be a part of the music team at 12pm Mass and for other youth events
– Ministry of Readers – Reading at the 12pm Mass
– Welcome Ministry – requires arriving early to welcome people joyfully to the Mass
– Set up/clear away – very important, arriving late to set up tables/chairs etc, or staying after to help the leaders clear things away
– Offertory/collectors – Bringing the gifts to the altar during the 12pm Mass or helping out with the collection
